Where to Have a Custom Engagement Ring Made in Antwerp

25 September 2026  · 7 min read

Antwerp has two kinds of places to have an engagement ring made. There are the houses in and around the Diamond District, who work with certified natural stones and generations of trade expertise. And there are the independent ateliers spread across the city, where a goldsmith designs and makes the ring. Both produce excellent work. They suit different people, and the difference is worth understanding before you book anything. Plan on four to twelve weeks from first conversation to finished ring, and at least one appointment where you can see and try on.

Juna Fae is one of the ateliers in this guide. We have described the others the way they describe themselves, and we say plainly where they are a better choice than we are.

Why have one made at all

Most people assume a custom ring is for someone who arrives with a fixed idea. In practice it is the opposite. Almost nobody walks in knowing what they want, and that is fine, because the value of having a ring made is not that you get to be inventive. It is that every decision gets made for you specifically rather than for a display case.

A ring is worn every day for decades. Whether it sits well depends on the width against your finger, the height of the setting against how you use your hands, the gold color against your skin, and how it will sit against a wedding band later. A finished ring in a case has already answered all of that for an average person. Having one made means answering it for you.

It also means you choose where the money goes. A larger stone, or a heavier band, or a detail inside that nobody else will ever see. That is a different conversation than picking the best of what happens to be in stock, and it does not automatically cost more.

And the piece is made once. For most couples that matters more than they expect.

The decision you are actually making

Natural or lab-grown. A natural diamond of the same size costs considerably more. A lab-grown stone is chemically and optically the same, and is certified the same way, by IGI, GIA, or HRD. Some ateliers work with both. Some have chosen one, and that choice usually tells you something about the rest of their thinking.

A collection with choices, or a design from nothing. Choosing width, finish, gold color, and stone from an existing model gets you something personal in less time. A fully bespoke design earns its place when you are working around an heirloom, or when nothing you have seen is right.

Showroom or private appointment. The Diamond District streets have security doors and rarely take walk-ins. Some ateliers welcome you off the street. Others work only by appointment, so the time is yours and nobody is waiting behind you.

Timeline. A ring from a collection takes roughly four to six weeks. A fully custom design takes eight to twelve. If you have a date, work backward and add a month.

The ateliers

Geretti works from the Diamond District and from the Sablon in Brussels, and has been a family business since 1929. Engagement rings, bespoke work, certified diamonds, and colored gemstones in 18k gold. Diamonds over one carat come with an HRD, IGI, or GIA certificate. Appointments in Antwerp or Brussels, and video consultations. Suits you if you want trade expertise, a wide stone selection, and a house with a long history behind it.

Beldiamond designs and makes in its own Antwerp atelier, with showrooms in Antwerp and Brussels. Ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones, lab-grown available on request, and sketches and 3D designs before anything is made. Suits you if you want a broad collection to start from, from solitaire to pavé to halo, with room to adjust.

stAen is at Oudeleeuwenrui 32 on het Eilandje, a shop and workshop in one. Handcrafted wedding and engagement rings in recycled gold, in yellow, red, and white, in 14 and 18 karat, where you choose width, finish, and metal. Lab-grown diamonds available. More than two hundred wedding bands to see in person. Suits you if you want to try a lot on and decide with the ring on your hand.

De Vree is a small atelier in the center of Antwerp where Anneleen De Vree designs and makes each piece herself, in limited runs. Minimalist work in recycled gold and silver, with lab-grown diamonds and gemstones. Collection pieces, small changes to existing designs, and original commissions. Suits you if you want quiet, understated design and one pair of hands from start to finish.

Goudsmederij Wim Meeussen is at Wijngaardstraat 11 in the historic center, making by hand since 1987. Wedding and engagement rings in 14 and 18 karat white, yellow, and rosé gold, with diamonds if you want them. They explicitly do not work by appointment. You walk in, Wednesday through Saturday, eleven to six. Suits you if you would rather drop by and talk than book a slot.

Juna Fae is run by three sisters from a private studio at Regine Beerplein 1 in the Groen Kwartier. By appointment only, in English, Dutch, or French. They design and handmake engagement and wedding rings in their Antwerp studio, in recycled 18k gold with IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds, and use no mined stones at all. Every custom piece is drawn for one couple and made once, never repeated for someone else. You see a 3D design and receive a fixed quote before anything is made, so the price does not move. Most engagement rings fall between 3.000 and 6.000 euro, and they guide couples personally in their Antwerp studio or, for those living abroad, entirely by video call. Suits you if you want an unhurried appointment instead of a shop floor, a piece that exists once, and materials chosen on principle rather than on price.

Where Juna Fae is not the right choice: if you want a natural diamond, particularly a larger one bought partly as a store of value, the Diamond District houses are better placed. They work only with lab-grown, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation they are working around.

What to ask, wherever you go

Ask what the quote covers and what it does not, and whether it can still change. Ask who actually makes the ring and where. Ask what happens if the size is wrong after a few months, and whether resizing costs anything. Ask to see the certificate of the stone and to check the laser inscription against the database. A serious jeweler will have no problem with any of this.

And ask about the second ring before you decide on the first. A wedding band has to sit against the engagement ring without a gap and without rubbing. That is easier to solve at the design stage than a year later.

Common questions

How much does a custom engagement ring cost in Antwerp?

Most of the price is the stone. A natural diamond costs considerably more than a lab-grown one of the same size, so the same budget buys a very different ring depending on which you choose. Every atelier in this guide quotes before anything is made, so ask for the quote in writing. At Juna Fae, wedding rings start at 995 euro and most engagement rings fall between 3.000 and 6.000 euro.

How long does it take to have an engagement ring made?

Four to six weeks for a ring from an existing collection, and eight to twelve weeks for a fully custom design, counted from the first appointment. If you have a date in mind, plan around three months and you will have room to adjust.

Do I need an appointment?

Usually yes. The Diamond District streets have security doors and rarely accept walk-ins, and several independent ateliers work by appointment only. There are exceptions: Goudsmederij Wim Meeussen states plainly that they do not work by appointment and that you are welcome during opening hours. Check before you travel.

Are lab-grown diamonds certified the same way as natural diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown stones are graded by the same laboratories, IGI, GIA, and HRD, on the same criteria of cut, color, clarity, and carat. Ask to see the certificate and to check the laser inscription on the girdle against the laboratory database before the stone is set.

Can I have a ring made in Antwerp if I live abroad?

Yes. Several ateliers offer video consultations. At Juna Fae this is a normal part of how they work rather than an exception: the same 3D design and the same fixed quote before production, advice on ring size from a distance, complimentary resizing if it turns out to be needed, and free insured shipping.

If you would like to talk to us, you can book an appointment at our Antwerp studio. And if this guide has pointed you toward one of the others, that is a good outcome too.
